Original or Barista?
Two MYOM oat drinks, same idea underneath: one pouch, water, thirty seconds, one litre of fresh oat drink. The difference is what you’re going to do with it. Here’s how to pick in under a minute.
Choose Original if your oat drink mostly goes on cereal, in tea, or into cooking. Choose Barista if it mostly goes into coffee. Both make a litre from one pouch, and both cost £14.99 for a four-litre Starter Bundle with a glass bottle.

MYOM Original: the everyday one
Original is the one that does everything else. It’s lighter than most oat drinks, lower in sugar than any of the leading cartons, and the ingredients list is short enough to read in one breath: oats, water, rapeseed oil, minerals, sea salt and vitamins. That’s it.
Lighter than the carton you’re replacing
34 kcal per 100ml, against 46 for a typical carton oat drink and 61 for whole cow’s milk. 1.4g fat, 0.2g saturates. If you’ve been avoiding oat drink because of the calories, this is the one that solves that.
Naturally low in sugar
1.9g per 100ml, and none of it added — the sweetness is what the oats bring. Leading oat cartons sit between 2.6 and 3.3g, and semi-skimmed cow’s milk is 4.8g. Barista is 2.7g, also entirely naturally occurring; what separates the two MYOMs is oat and oil content, not added sugar. Neither has any.
A label you can actually read
80% oats. No gums, no stabilisers, no artificial anything, and no dipotassium phosphate. Nut-free, soya-free, lactose-free, non-GMO.
Fortified properly
130mg of calcium per 100ml, slightly more than semi-skimmed cow’s milk, plus vitamin B12, vegan D3 and iodine. Iodine matters and a lot of plant drinks skip it — it’s one of the most common shortfalls among people who switch away from dairy.
If your oat drink goes on cereal, in tea, into a smoothie or into a pan, MYOM Original is the one.

What’s the same either way
- Four 130g MYOM pouches. Each one makes one litre. Water, thirty seconds of shaking, done.
- Twelve months in the cupboard. No fridge space until you make it.
- A reusable 1L glass bottle comes with every Starter Bundle, worth £7.99.
- Fortified with calcium, vitamin B12, vegan D3 and iodine — 130mg of calcium per 100ml in both.
- No dipotassium phosphate, no gums, no stabilisers, no artificial additives, in either recipe.
- No added sugar in either. Every gram of sugar in both is naturally occurring, from the oats.
- Both are premixes, not cartons. We leave the water out; you add it at home.
- Made in Scotland.
Plenty of people keep both
A lot of MYOM households run Original for cereal and tea and Barista for the morning coffee. The pouches are small enough that two open boxes take less cupboard space than a single carton takes in a fridge — and once you own the bottle, you’re only ever buying pouches.
If you’re not sure which suits you, start with one Starter Bundle. Four litres is about a fortnight, which is long enough to know. If you can’t pick between them, start with Original — it’s the one most people use most.

MYOM FAQs
Can I use Barista for cereal and tea?
Yes. It’s richer and creamier than Original, which some people prefer in tea. It’s a little higher in fat and protein, so if you’re choosing on nutrition, Original is the lighter option.
Can I use Original in coffee?
Yes, and plenty of people do — particularly in filter, cafetière and instant. It will froth for a casual latte. If you want proper microfoam or latte art, Barista is built for it and Original isn’t.
Which is better value?
They’re the same price. Both Starter Bundles are £14.99 for four pouches and a 1L glass bottle, and both make four litres.
What’s actually different in the recipe?
Barista contains fava bean protein and more rapeseed oil, which gives it the body to hold a foam and the creamier texture in a cup. Original is 80% oats to Barista’s 77%, with fewer calories — 34 per 100ml against 49 — and less fat. Neither contains gums, stabilisers, dipotassium phosphate or added sugar.
Do they taste different?
Yes. Original is lighter and cleaner. Barista is fuller and creamier, and stands up better against a strong espresso.
Can I use the same bottle for both?
Yes. The 1L glass bottle is identical — wash it between the two and use it for either.
Which MYOM oat drink is best for coffee?
MYOM Barista is the one built for coffee. It steams, stretches and holds at 60–65°C for hot microfoam, and froths straight from the fridge for cold foam, using fava bean protein rather than gums or stabilisers. It was named Best Vegan Barista Milk 2026.
Which MYOM oat drink is lowest in sugar?
MYOM Original, at 1.9g of naturally occurring sugar per 100ml with nothing added. It also has the fewest calories in the range at 34 kcal per 100ml, alongside 1.4g fat and 0.2g saturates. Barista is 2.7g, also entirely naturally occurring — neither has added sugar.
Does MYOM contain phosphates?
Neither MYOM contains dipotassium phosphate, the additive commonly used in oat cartons to stop them splitting in coffee. MYOM Barista is fortified with calcium in the form of tricalcium phosphate, a calcium salt used as a nutrient rather than a stabiliser, and MYOM Original uses calcium carbonate. Neither recipe uses a phosphate to hold the drink together.
What is an oat drink premix?
A premix is oat drink made without the water. Everything that would be in a litre — oats, oil, minerals, vitamins, salt — is blended into a 130g pouch, and you add the water at home. Four litres fits through a letterbox, keeps for twelve months in a cupboard, and is made fresh the moment you want it.
Is MYOM an oat milk concentrate?
Not quite. A concentrate is made by removing water from a larger volume. MYOM is a premix — the oat blend is made without the water ever being added, so nothing is boiled off or reduced. You add the water at home, and one 130g pouch makes a litre.
Is MYOM an oat milk powder?
No. MYOM is a liquid premix, not a powder. The pouch contains a smooth oat blend that mixes into cold water with a thirty-second shake — no lumps, no blending, no dissolving time. One 130g pouch makes one litre.
