MYOM Oat Milk FAQs
Whether you’re new to MYOM or already a fan, this FAQ section covers everything you need to know about how MYOM works, what makes it different, and how to get the best results at home. Here you’ll find answers on nutrition, foaming, storage, recycling, and more for both MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat.
ABOUT MYOM
What is MYOM?
MYOM stands for Make Your Own Milk a tastier, more sustainable way to enjoy oat milk. Instead of buying heavy cartons filled with 90 percent water, MYOM gives you a lightweight premix you simply mix with water at home to make fresh oat milk in seconds.
Each 130 g pouch makes one litre of milk, fortified with calcium, vitamin D3, vitamin B12 and iodine for balanced nutrition. The pouches are made from fully recyclable mono-material PP5 at a fraction of the weight and carbon footprint of a carton.
MYOM comes in two variants to suit how you like your milk:
- MYOM Original Oat – Smooth, balanced and naturally low in sugar (1.9 g per 100 ml). Perfect for everyday use in cereal, tea, and baking.
- MYOM Barista Oat – A premium blend with extra creaminess and foam performance (2.7 g sugar, 1.9 g fat per 100 ml). Designed to create silky microfoam for coffee and hot drinks without splitting or stabilisers.
Both variants are 100 % plant-based, fortified for wellbeing, and made in the UK. Each pouch saves around 90 % of the packaging weight and emissions of carton oat milks so you can taste better and waste less.
How Does MYOM Work?
MYOM works on a simple idea: instead of transporting and storing milk that’s mostly water, MYOM lets you make it fresh when you need it. Each lightweight pouch contains a concentrated oat blend that transforms into one litre of fresh oat milk when mixed with water. It’s as easy as Shake to Make:
- MYOM Original Oat delivers a clean, balanced taste perfect for cereals, tea, or smoothies.
- MYOM Barista Oat adds extra creaminess for silky foam in coffee and hot drinks.
Because MYOM is made fresh at home, it doesn’t need refrigeration until it’s mixed — saving energy, space, and waste. Each pouch is fully recyclable PP5, and the process cuts packaging weight and emissions by around 87 % compared to carton oat milks.
What Makes MYOM Different from Other Oat Milks?
80% of UK oat milk is made in factories, packed into cartons and imported into the country even though they are around 90 per cent water. MYOM takes a completely different approach. It is a premix oat blend that you make by adding water at home to make fresh milk whenever you need it. There are no added stabilisers, gums or acidity regulators like dipotassium phosphate. The lightweight pouches are made from recyclable PP5 plastic and use around 87 per cent less packaging weight, helping to cut transport emissions by up to 90 per cent.
And MYOM tastes better too.
- MYOM Original Oat offers a clean, balanced flavour with natural sweetness from oats and a smooth texture that works beautifully in cereals, smoothies or tea.
- MYOM Barista Oat is a premium, foaming blend created for coffee lovers. It has a creamier mouthfeel and stable microfoam without any artificial additives or flavours that overpower the taste.
Both are fortified with calcium, vitamin D3, vitamin B12 and iodine to support everyday wellbeing, and both are made in the United Kingdom.
Why Does Removing Water Matter?
Ready-to-drink oat milks are 90% water; MYOM is a liquid oat base with the similar nutritional profile. Instead of shipping heavy liquid around the country, we let you add water at home in seconds. Less weight = fewer trucks on the road, lower fuel use, and less packaging per litre.
MYOM vs Carton Oat Milk
Most oat milks come pre-made in cartons. MYOM does things differently — and the difference is worth talking about.
Freshness
• Cartons: Oat drinks are made months before you open them, pasteurised, and then sit on supermarket shelves.
• MYOM: You make it fresh at home in seconds. The flavour is creamier, lighter, and award-winning — no “sat-around” taste.
Convenience
• Cartons: Bulky to carry, heavy to store, and take up fridge space.
• MYOM: Slimline pouches slip through your letterbox. Store dozens in a single cupboard, then make up only what you need. No more emergency runs to the shop when you run out of milk.
Value for Money
• Cartons: You’re mostly paying to ship water and heavy packaging. That cost is baked into the retail price.
• MYOM: We pass on the savings. Smaller, lighter packaging and less transport means more value in every pouch. One 130g pouch makes a full litre of oat milk at a competitive price.
Sustainability
• Cartons: Heavy, multi-layer packaging with low recycling rates (less than a third of UK cartons are recycled). Plus, refrigerated transport adds emissions.
• MYOM: 80% lighter packaging, fully recyclable pouches, and no refrigeration until made. Lower carbon footprint at every stage.
Storage & Shelf Life
• Cartons: Need fridge space once opened, often wasted if not finished in time.
• MYOM: Up to 12 months long shelf life at room temperature, once made, lasts 5 days in the fridge. You only make what you need, when you need it.
Taste & Performance
• Cartons: Standardised recipes often rely on stabilisers and additives (like dipotassium phosphate) for consistency.
• MYOM: A cleaner recipe, with no unnecessary additives. Freshly made milk tastes smoother, creamier, and froths beautifully. And definitely NO dipotassium phosphate.
Important Extras
• Adjust the strength: add a little less water for creamier milk, a little more for lighter. Cartons can’t do that.• Travel-Friendly: A few pouches in your bag or suitcase gives you fresh oat milk anywhere, from hotel rooms to camping trips.• Clutter-Free Recycling: One rinse and your pouch is ready to recycle from home. No crushing down bulky cartons.
MYOM vs Carton Oat Drinks: A Comparison
- Freshness: MYOM oat drinks are made fresh whenever you want them, ensuring a smooth and creamy taste. Carton oat drinks are pre-made months in advance, and their taste can degrade over time.
- Convenience: MYOM uses slimline pouches that fit through the letterbox and are easy to store. Carton drinks come in bulky cartons that take up fridge space.
- Value for Money: With MYOM, savings are passed on since one pouch makes one litre at a lower cost. Carton oat drinks are more expensive as the price includes shipping water and heavy packaging.
- Sustainability: MYOM packaging is 80% lighter, recyclable, and produces low emissions. Carton oat drinks use multi-layer cartons with low recycling rates and higher emissions.
- Shelf Life: MYOM pouches last up to 12 months when ambient and 5 days once made. Carton oat drinks have a variable shelf life and are often wasted if not consumed quickly.
- Taste & Performance: MYOM offers a clean recipe with no additives, and it froths beautifully. Carton oat drinks often contain stabilisers and additives.
- Flexibility: With MYOM, you can make the drink stronger or lighter to suit your taste. Carton oat drinks only come in one standard formula.
- Travel: MYOM is portable and easy to take anywhere. Carton oat drinks are bulky, heavy, and not travel-friendly.
MYOM vs Oat Milk Powders
Oat powders might look convenient at first glance, but the reality is very different. Here’s why MYOM stands apart as the smarter, fresher, and tastier choice.
Taste & Texture
• Powders: Often feel chalky with a thin mouthfeel. Few, if any, win taste awards.
• MYOM: A liquid premix that blends instantly into smooth, creamy oat milk. MYOM has won 2-stars Great Taste Award and Best Vegan Milk 2025 — proof that taste really matters.
Freshness
• Powders: Dehydrated from oat milk using high-heat to remove moisture and stored in bulk bags, losing some of the fresh, natural oat flavour.
• MYOM: Made fresh when you want it. Simply squeeze, add water, shake — and enjoy the taste of freshly blended oat milk.
Convenience & Portability
• Powders: Big, heavy bags (designed to make 4–8 litres at once) aren’t portable, practical, or flexible.
• MYOM: A 65g pouch makes 500ml and a 130g pouch makes 1 litre. Perfect for home, work, or travel. Small, lightweight, and letterbox-friendly.
Ease of Use
• Powders: Require careful measuring, mixing, and often warm water or blenders to dissolve properly. Even then, they can separate or clump.
• MYOM: No measuring, no hassle. Just squeeze the pouch into cold water, shake for 20 seconds, and you’re done. Always consistent, always smooth.
Clean Ingredients
• Powders: Often contain added starches, gums, or preservatives to improve solubility and shelf life.
• MYOM: A clean recipe with no artificial additives, no dipotassium phosphate, and no chalky aftertaste.
Space Saving
• Powders: Bulk bags are awkward to store, reseal, and keep fresh.
• MYOM: Slim pouches store neatly, stack easily, and slip into a cupboard or even a drawer.
Value for Money
• Powders: Price per litre may be similar to MYOM, but when you factor in the taste compromise, the loss of freshness, and the inconvenience, they’re less appealing.
• MYOM: Premium taste and convenience at the same price point — plus sustainability benefits with the comfort of a very lower carbon footprint.
Further thoughts
• Convenience: With MYOM, you can make 500ml at a time — reducing waste and suiting smaller households.
• Travel-Friendly: Slip a pouch or two into your bag, and you’ve got fresh oat milk anywhere, from hotels to camping trips.
• Award-Winning Quality: Consumers and judges agree: MYOM tastes better.
MYOM vs Oat Powders: A Comparison
- Taste & Texture: MYOM oat drinks have an award-winning flavour that’s smooth and creamy with no chalkiness. Oat powders often leave a chalky residue, have a thin mouthfeel, and are rarely award-winning.
- Freshness: MYOM is made fresh whenever you need it. Oat powders are dehydrated and stored in bulk.
- Portability: A 65g MYOM pouch makes 500ml and is travel-friendly. Oat powders typically come in heavy 4–8 litre bags that are not portable.
- Ease of Use: With MYOM, there’s no measuring required—just squeeze and shake. Oat powders require measuring and often need warm water or a blender.
- Ingredients: MYOM uses a clean recipe with no artificial additives. Oat powders often include starches, gums, and preservatives.
- Storage: MYOM comes in compact pouches that are easy to store. Oat powders are sold in bulky bags that can have resealing issues.
- Value: MYOM is competitively priced per litre while delivering premium taste and convenience. Oat powders may be a similar price but usually come with a compromise in taste.
MYOM vs Dairy Milk
There are several differences between oat milk and dairy milk in terms of nutrition, tolerance, and environmental impact. Here are the key ones:
- Lactose-free: MYOM is naturally lactose free, making it a great option for those who suffer with lactose intolerance. Dairy milk contains lactose, which can cause digestive discomfort for some people.
- Nutrition: MYOM provides many of the same nutrients as dairy milk. In fact, per 100ml, MYOM contains slightly more calcium than semi-skimmed cow’s milk — plus added Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3, and iodine, which dairy milk doesn’t always provide.
- Calories & fat:
- MYOM: 34 kcal / 1.4g fat / 0.2g saturates
- Semi-skimmed cow’s milk: 46 kcal / 2g fat / 1g saturates
- That means MYOM is lighter on calories, fat, and saturated fat.
- Carbohydrates:
- MYOM: 4.7g carbs (1.9g sugar)
- Semi-skimmed cow’s milk: 5g carbs (naturally occurring lactose)
- Sustainability: Oat milk is considered a more sustainable choice than dairy milk. MYOM uses less land, water, and energy to produce, and its recyclable pouches cut down on packaging waste. Dairy milk, by contrast, has a far higher footprint due to methane emissions from cows and the impact of large-scale animal farming.

How Does MYOM Compare to Other Barista Oat Milks?
MYOM Barista Oat delivers the same silky texture and professional performance as the best-known barista oat milks in cartons, but with a lighter footprint. Made with 77% oats, fava bean protein and a touch of cold-pressed rapeseed oil, it creates smooth, stable microfoam that holds perfectly for lattes, flat whites and cappuccinos. The flavour is naturally sweet and balanced, enhancing coffee rather than masking it.
Unlike most carton barista milks that rely on dipotassium phosphate or gums, MYOM achieves its creamy texture naturally, with no additives or stabilisers. It’s lower in fat and calories than leading brands, at just 42 kcal and 0.3 g saturates per 100 ml, and contains no added sugar. MYOM is made fresh at home from a concentrated oat blend, so there’s no need for refrigeration until made, no additives to preserve it and no waste from opened cartons.
Each 130 g pouch replaces a one-litre carton, cutting packaging by 87% and transport emissions. Made in Scotland, MYOM Barista Oat combines café-quality taste with a cleaner label and a smaller environmental impact: a premium barista milk that tastes better and wastes less.
Is MYOM Low in Sugar?
Yes, both MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat are naturally low in sugar and contain no added sugar or sweeteners. The small amount of sugar listed on the nutritional label comes naturally from the oats themselves during the blending process.
- MYOM Original Oat contains just 1.9 g of naturally occurring sugar per 100 ml, making it one of the lowest sugar oat milks available in the UK.
- MYOM Barista Oat contains 2.7 g of natural sugar per 100 ml, slightly higher due to its richer oat base which enhances creaminess and foam quality.
Both variants contain less sugar than semi-skimmed dairy milk, which typically has around 4.8 g per 100 ml. Neither product contains added sugar, flavourings or sweeteners, and both are fortified with calcium, vitamin D3, vitamin B12 and iodine. So, whether you choose MYOM Original Oat or MYOM Barista Oat, you are choosing oat milk that is naturally balanced, low in sugar and made fresh at home with no unnecessary additives.
Does MYOM Contain Added Sugar or Sweeteners?
MYOM’s sweetness comes naturally from oats, never from added sugar or sweeteners. When oats are blended with water, a small portion of their starch naturally converts into simple sugars, creating a gentle, natural sweetness without the need for additives. That’s why the small sugar value shown on the label reflects only what’s naturally present in the oats. MYOM contains no flavourings, added sugar, stevia, sucralose or any other sweetener. This clean-label approach gives both MYOM Original and MYOM Barista Oat their smooth, balanced taste while keeping them naturally low in sugar, fat and calories compared with most oat milks and semi-skimmed dairy milk.
- MYOM Original Oat contains 1.9 g of natural sugar per 100 ml.
- MYOM Barista Oat contains 2.7 g of natural sugar per 100 ml, slightly higher due to its richer oat base for extra creaminess and foam.
Is MYOM Fortified with Vitamins and Minerals?
Yes, both MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat are fortified with key vitamins and minerals to support everyday wellbeing. Each pouch provides the essential nutrients typically found in dairy milk, helping you maintain a balanced plant-based diet. All fortification ingredients are plant-based and vegan-friendly, including vegan-certified vitamin D₃, ensuring both variants remain fully suitable for vegans. With MYOM, you get many of the same nutritional benefits as dairy milk but made fresh at home, for better taste, less waste and everyday convenience.
Each 100 ml serving of MYOM provides a balanced blend of essential nutrients: calcium (130 mg, 16% RI) to support healthy bones and teeth; vitamin D₃ (0.75 µg, 15% RI) to aid calcium absorption and maintain immune function; vitamin B₁₂ (0.9 µg, 36% RI) to support energy metabolism and the nervous system; and iodine (30 µg, 20% RI) to help maintain normal thyroid function and cognitive performance.
Does MYOM Contain Rapeseed Oil and Why?
Yes, both MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat contain a small amount of rapeseed oil. This helps create a smooth, creamy texture and a balanced nutritional profile, similar to the natural fat content of semi-skimmed dairy milk. Rapeseed oil is chosen because it’s a sustainable, heart-healthy fat with an excellent balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and very little saturated fat. It also contributes to the silky mouthfeel and gentle richness that make MYOM taste fresh and naturally satisfying.
MYOM Original Oat uses a small amount of rapeseed oil to achieve a light, balanced texture, with just 1.1 g of total fat and 0.2 g of saturated fat per 100 ml. MYOM Barista Oat contains slightly more rapeseed oil to enhance foam performance and creaminess in coffee and hot drinks, with 1.9 g of fat per 100 ml and still only 0.2 g of saturated fat.
Rapeseed oil also supports MYOM’s wider sustainability goals. It’s grown extensively in the UK and Europe, requires fewer resources than many oils. By using rapeseed oil in moderation, MYOM delivers the creaminess people expect from milk while keeping it plant-based, low in saturated fat and environmentally responsible.
Does MYOM Contain Dipotassium Phosphate or Other Stabilisers?
Both MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat are completely free from dipotassium phosphate (E340 ii), as well as artificial gums, emulsifiers and stabilisers. Dipotassium phosphate is an inorganic phosphate additive commonly used in carton oat milks to prevent separation or curdling in hot or acidic drinks such as coffee. It acts as an acidity regulator, stabiliser and emulsifier. Because of its high absorbability and widespread use in processed foods, many health-conscious consumers now prefer to avoid it.
Typical barista-style oat milks that contain dipotassium phosphate include brands such as Oatly Barista Edition, MOMA Oat Drink Signature, and Mighty Ultimate Oat Milk Barista Edition, all of which list the additive as an acidity regulator. In contrast, MYOM achieves its smooth, stable performance naturally through its oat blend and, in the case of the Barista variant, added plant-based protein — with no need for chemically derived stabilisers.
The result is a cleaner, more natural flavour, better performance in hot drinks and foam, and complete transparency for consumers. By choosing MYOM, you’re opting for great-tasting oat milk with the reassurance of no E340(ii), no added gums or emulsifiers, and the same fortification and taste benefits expected from a premium barista oat milk.
Does MYOM Contain Allergens?
Both MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat contain oats, the only recognised allergen present in either blend. Oats are naturally gluten-free, but because they’re often grown and processed alongside wheat, barley and rye, there’s a small risk of cross-contamination. For most people this isn’t an issue, but those with coeliac disease or severe gluten sensitivity should avoid standard oats. Both blends remain free from dairy, nuts, soy and other common allergens, making them suitable for the vast majority of plant-based consumers.
Oats also contain a protein called avenin, which has a similar structure to gluten. While most people with coeliac disease can tolerate avenin, a very small number may still react to it. At MYOM, great care is taken to minimise contamination risk. All products are made in Scotland at our BRC-AA rated facility under strict allergen management and traceability controls.
For those who need a certified gluten-free option or prefer to avoid seed oils, MYOM will launch a gluten-free and seed-oil-free variant in Spring 2026.
Is MYOM Gluten-Free?
Both MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat are made from high-quality oats that are naturally gluten-free. However, because oats can come into contact with other grains during farming and processing, MYOM is not currently certified gluten-free. For most consumers, MYOM is perfectly suitable as part of a balanced diet, but it may not be appropriate for those with coeliac disease or severe gluten intolerance.
MYOM takes great care to source oats from trusted suppliers and to manufacture at a BRC-AA rated facility that follows strict food-safety standards to minimise the risk of cross-contamination. A certified gluten-free version is in development and will offer the same fresh taste and sustainability benefits for those who need to avoid gluten entirely.
Is MYOM Vegan?
Yes, both MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat are completely vegan and dairy-free. They contain no animal-derived ingredients or by-products at any stage of production. Every ingredient, from the oats and rapeseed oil to the added vitamins and minerals, is plant-based and suitable for a vegan lifestyle. Unlike some fortified drinks that use animal-derived vitamin D₃, MYOM uses a vegan-certified source derived from lichen, ensuring both variants remain fully suitable for vegans while still providing the same nutritional benefits as fortified dairy milk.
MYOM is also free from dairy, nuts, soy and other common allergens, making it a versatile choice for households with mixed dietary needs. By choosing MYOM, you’re supporting a brand that values sustainability, plant-based nutrition and ethical sourcing, with every pouch made in Scotland at a BRC-AA rated facility to the highest quality standards.
Can Children Drink MYOM?
Children over 1 year can drink calcium-fortified oat milks like MYOM as part of a balanced diet. MYOM Original Oat contains calcium, iodine, vitamin B12 and D3 — all important for growth. Always check with a healthcare professional if your child has allergies or higher needs. Read more here.
MYOM Oat Milk and IBS
MYOM could be suitable for some with IBS who find dairy triggers symptoms. Oat milk is generally considered low FODMAP in small servings (around 30ml), but larger quantities should be avoided. As IBS triggers vary, consult a dietitian before making dietary changes.
MYOM Oat Milk and Kidney Health
If you have chronic kidney disease (CKD), dietary requirements are highly individual. MYOM contains no dipotassium phosphate, but it does include potassium iodide. Always seek advice from a kidney dietitian or doctor before choosing plant-based milk alternatives.
What Are the Benefits of a Balanced Plant-Based Diet?
Plant-based diets are increasingly popular — whether vegan, vegetarian or flexitarian. Research shows protective effects against heart disease, some cancers, and lower chronic disease mortality. Eating a variety of plants (30+ weekly) supports a diverse gut microbiome and overall wellbeing.
PREPARATION & USE
How Do I Make MYOM?
Making MYOM is quick, simple. Each pouch contains the perfect amount of premix oat blend to make one litre of fresh oat milk, while the smaller 65 g pouch of MYOM Original Oat makes 500 ml. MYOM Barista Oat is available only in 130 g pouches to make one litre. Once prepared, your fresh oat milk is ready to use. Because it’s made fresh at home, MYOM doesn’t need refrigeration until made, store it in the fridge and enjoy within five days, giving it a quick shake before each use.
To make 1 litre using a 130g pouch, start by pouring 500 ml of cold water into your reusable MYOM bottle or clean container. Empty the full pouch of MYOM Original Oat or MYOM Barista Oat, secure the lid and shake firmly for around 20 to 30 seconds until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add more cold water to reach a total of one litre, then shake again for a perfectly blended result.
To make 500 ml using a 65 g pouch, pour 240 ml of cold water into a 500 ml bottle, then squeeze in the full pouch of MYOM Original Oat. Shake for 20 seconds until smooth and creamy, then top up with a further 200 ml of water and give it a final shake. For the best results, chill before serving and shake again before each use.
How Much Milk Does One Pouch Make?
Each pouch of MYOM is designed to make fresh oat milk quickly and conveniently while reducing packaging and waste. Because MYOM is made fresh at home, you can decide exactly how much to make and when, helping to reduce food waste and enjoy milk that tastes freshly blended every time.
MYOM Original Oat is available in two pouch sizes:
• 130g pouch: makes 1 litre of fresh oat milk.
• 65g pouch: makes 500 ml of fresh oat milk.
MYOM Barista Oat is available in 130g pouches only>
• Each pouch makes 1 litre of creamy, barista-quality oat milk.
How Long Does MYOM Last Once Made?
Once mixed with water, MYOM becomes fresh oat milk and should be treated just like any other chilled milk. It must be refrigerated immediately and used within five days for the best quality and safety. While unopened MYOM pouches are shelf-stable at room temperature, once water is added the product becomes perishable. This is true for all non-preserved plant-based and dairy milks.
For storage, keep unopened pouches in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight. Once opened, reseal the pouch tightly and store it in a cool, dry area. After mixing, chill the made milk straight away and keep it refrigerated, using it within five days. Do not store made milk at room temperature, even for short periods, particularly in warm environments.
Following these simple steps preserves MYOM’s safety, quality and great taste. Because MYOM contains no preservatives, stabilisers or dipotassium phosphate, refrigeration is essential once water is added. Storing it correctly ensures you always enjoy the same fresh, silky texture and clean flavour that make MYOM stand out.
How Should I Store MYOM Before and After Opening?
One of the key advantages of MYOM is that it’s shelf-stable until made, so there’s no need to refrigerate it before opening. The premix format keeps it naturally preserved and convenient to store at home, at work or on the go. Unopened pouches can be kept in a cool, dry cupboard, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Each pouch has a 12-month best before end (BBE) date from when it is made, remaining fully sealed and protected until you’re ready to make it.
Once a pouch is opened, treat it as you would any fresh food. Reseal tightly after each use and store in the refrigerator. For the best quality and safety, use within five days. Never leave an open pouch or made milk at room temperature for long periods.
After mixing, MYOM becomes fresh oat milk and should be refrigerated immediately. Keep it cold at all times and consume within five days. A quick shake before use will restore its smooth texture, as natural separation may occur.
This simple storage approach ensures MYOM stays safe, fresh and great-tasting, all without the need for stabilisers, gums or preservatives.
Does MYOM Need to Be Refrigerated Before Opening?
No, MYOM does not need to be refrigerated before opening. Each pouch is shelf-stable and sealed to stay fresh at room temperature for many months. This means you can keep MYOM in a cupboard, pantry or work drawer and make it whenever you need it. It’s ideal for reducing fridge clutter and avoiding waste from opened cartons that spoil before they are finished.
Once the pouch is opened, it should be refrigerated and used within 5 days. The same applies to milk made from the concentrate; once mixed with water, it behaves like fresh oat milk and must be kept chilled at all times.
The ability to store unopened MYOM at room temperature is one of its biggest advantages. It saves fridge space, reduces food waste and helps cut the energy use associated with cold storage and transport.
Can I Freeze MYOM?
No, freezing MYOM is not recommended. Both the premix and made milk are designed for freshness and best quality when stored under normal conditions, either in a cupboard before opening or in the fridge once made.
Freezing the concentrate or made milk may alter the texture, flavour and performance of MYOM. When thawed, the natural separation of oats and oils can become uneven, making it difficult to restore the smooth, creamy consistency that defines MYOM. This can also affect foaming, baking and drink preparation results.
Instead, MYOM’s long shelf life at room temperature means you can safely store unopened pouches in a cool, dry cupboard until you are ready to use them. Once mixed, keep the milk refrigerated and enjoy it within 5 days.
Can I Use MYOM in Tea or Coffee?
Yes, both MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat are ideal for tea and coffee. They are formulated to deliver smooth, stable results without curdling or separating, even in hot or acidic drinks. The natural balance of oats, oil and protein in MYOM Barista Oat allows it to behave like dairy milk when steamed or mixed with espresso, giving rich texture and sweetness.
MYOM Original Oat has a light, balanced flavour that complements the delicate taste of tea. It blends evenly without leaving an aftertaste and retains its smooth texture when added to hot drinks.
MYOM Barista Oat is the perfect choice for coffee. It has a higher oat content and added fava bean protein, which give it body, creaminess and a stable foam. It creates silky microfoam that holds beautifully, without the need for dipotassium phosphate or other additives commonly found in carton oat milks.
Tips for the Perfect Cuppa:
• Use chilled MYOM Barista Oat for foaming or steaming.
• When adding to coffee, pour slowly to preserve texture.
• For tea, try MYOM Original Oat as a lighter alternative to dairy milk.
Can I Use MYOM in Recipes or Baking?
Yes, you can use MYOM Original Oat and MYOM Barista Oat in cooking and baking wherever you’d normally use dairy milk. Both perform beautifully in sweet and savoury recipes, adding natural creaminess and gentle oat sweetness that enhances flavour without overpowering it. Because MYOM is made fresh at home, it behaves just like real milk in batters, sauces and desserts, blending smoothly with dry ingredients, holding structure when heated and browning evenly in baked goods.
MYOM Original Oat is ideal for baking and everyday cooking. It adds moisture and softness to cakes, muffins, pancakes and breads, and works well in custards, porridge and smoothies thanks to its mild, balanced flavour. MYOM Barista Oat has a richer, creamier texture that makes it perfect for sauces, soups, quiches and creamy desserts, while also adding extra depth and softness to baked goods. You can substitute MYOM 1:1 for dairy milk in any recipe, choosing the variant to suit your taste, lighter Original or creamier Barista.
Because MYOM is made fresh, it contains no preservatives or stabilisers that can alter flavour or texture when cooked. The result is food that tastes naturally better. Whether you’re whisking, baking or blending, MYOM brings the same comfort and versatility as dairy milk, made lighter and more sustainable.
Can I Foam MYOM Original Oat?
Yes, MYOM Original Oat can create a light froth suitable for everyday drinks, but for perfect, café-quality results, MYOM Barista Oat delivers noticeably better performance. MYOM Original Oat has a naturally smooth texture that allows gentle frothing for lighter foam. It performs best when fully chilled before use and frothed at around 60–65 °C to avoid overheating or separation. For simple drinks made at home, it gives a pleasing texture and flavour, making it ideal for daily use.
If you want true barista performance with glossy, stable microfoam that pours smoothly into lattes and cappuccinos MYOM Barista Oat is the better choice. With a higher oat content and added fava bean protein, it produces a denser, more elastic foam, while the balanced rapeseed oil provides stretch and sheen for consistent results.
Developed to replicate the structure of dairy milk foam without dipotassium phosphate, stabilisers or emulsifiers, it aerates evenly and maintains texture as it cools, allowing you to “Foam Like a Pro at Home.” For best results, always start with chilled MYOM, heat gradually to no more than 65 °C, and use a jug frother or steam wand for the perfect finish.
Can I Foam MYOM Barista Oat?
Yes, MYOM Barista Oat is specifically designed to foam beautifully, creating silky, stable microfoam that performs perfectly every time. Whether you use a steam wand, jug frother or handheld whisk, it produces a fine, glossy foam ideal for lattes, cappuccinos and flat whites. The difference lies in the carefully balanced blend of oats, fava bean protein and rapeseed oil, which allows air to integrate evenly into the milk while maintaining elasticity. The result is foam that holds its shape without separating and delivers a smooth, naturally creamy taste.
Unlike most carton barista oat milks, MYOM contains no dipotassium phosphate, gums or stabilisers. Its microfoam forms naturally from the oats and plant-based protein, giving a clean, fresh flavour and a long-lasting, stable texture. For best results, start with fully chilled MYOM Barista Oat (below 6 °C), fill your jug halfway to allow room for expansion, and steam or heat gradually to around 60–65 °C. Tap and swirl the jug to remove large bubbles and blend the foam for a glossy, velvety finish that’s perfect for pouring or creating latte art.
Because MYOM Barista Oat is made fresh at home, it foams better than long-life carton milks that have been heat-treated and stored for months. The freshness and simplicity of the ingredients are what make the difference every time you shake, steam or froth, you get a consistent, café-quality result. Whether you’re using a domestic frother or a professional coffee machine, MYOM Barista Oat performs beautifully, giving you the freedom to “Foam Like a Pro at Home.”
What Frothers Work Best with MYOM?
MYOM Barista Oat is designed to create silky, stable microfoam using a wide range of home milk frothers. It performs exceptionally well with both electric jug frothers and steam wands, delivering café-quality results without the need for stabilisers or additives. Its natural formulation allows air to blend smoothly through the milk, producing a soft, glossy foam that holds shape and sheen.
You can achieve excellent results with popular models such as the Lavazza Milk Easy, Instant Pot MagicFroth, Breville Milk Café and Nespresso Aeroccino4. These frothers heat gently and incorporate air evenly, enhancing MYOM’s naturally creamy texture. For perfect results every time, start with chilled MYOM Barista Oat (below 6 °C), fill your jug halfway to allow expansion, and heat gradually to around 60–65 °C. After frothing, tap and swirl the jug to remove large bubbles, blend the texture and pour immediately for silky latte art or a smooth, stable finish.
Because MYOM is made fresh at home, it produces a cleaner, more authentic taste than long-life oat milks that rely on dipotassium phosphate or other additives to stabilise their structure. Its freshness and simplicity are what make the difference. With a good frother and a little practice, you can achieve consistent, barista-quality results at home. For model-specific advice, see our MYOM Milk Frother Guide blog post.
Does Shaking Mix MYOM Properly?
Yes. MYOM has been formulated to dissolve well by shaking. Separation over time is natural in plant milks. Just shake again before use and it’s as fresh as day one.
Can I Use a Blender or Frother with MYOM?
Blender: Produces a frothy foam, ideal for lattes or smoothies.
Frother: Works brilliantly for café-style drinks. Simply prepare MYOM, then froth as usual.
MYOM Oat Barista (launching Nov 2025) is optimised for all types of frothing: from home frothers to professional espresso machines.
What Happens If I Add the Wrong Amount of Water?
You can add more MYOM if you’ve added too much water, or more water if you haven’t added enough. If you want a creamier taste, just add less water.
As a rule - one MYOM pouch plus 440ml of water makes 500ml of a perfect semi skimmed style oat milk.
Why Does MYOM Oat Milk Separate?
Natural separation is common in all plant milks. Unlike cartons, MYOM isn’t heavily processed with stabilisers. A gentle shake before each use restores creaminess.
What Is the Shelf Life of MYOM Oat Milk?
MYOM Original Oat has a 12-month shelf life. MYOM Oat Barista has a 7-month shelf-life. We will steadily increase MYOM Oat Barista to 12-month shelf-life, so best to check the back of the pack. Once made into milk, both can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Best-before dates are printed on packaging. Store pouches in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
Difference Between Best Before and Use By Dates
In the UK, food labels carry either a Best Before date (quality) or a Use By date (safety). Knowing the difference helps you enjoy food at its best while staying safe.
In practice for MYOM:
• Unopened pouch → shows a Best Before End (BBE) date (typically up to 12-month shelf life).
• Made-up MYOM milk → refrigerate and used within 5 days (Use By).
SUSTAINABILITY & ENVIRONMENT
Why Is MYOM Better for the Environment?
MYOM is designed to be better for you and kinder to the planet. By replacing liquid milk with a lightweight premix, it cuts packaging, transport emissions and waste without compromising taste or nutrition. Each 130g pouch replaces a one-litre carton yet weighs just 6g instead of 35 g. Made from recyclable PP5 mono-material with no aluminium, MYOM pouches are easy to recycle through most UK kerbside schemes.
Because MYOM contains only the nutrients, not the water, it ships more efficiently, reducing total weight and emissions. The shelf-stable format means no refrigeration is needed until made, saving energy in storage and transport. Making MYOM fresh at home also helps reduce food waste. Simply prepare what you need and enjoy fresh milk every time.
Made in Scotland, MYOM keeps its supply chain short and carbon footprint low. With 88% of UK councils now collecting PP5 plastics, recycling is improving fast. MYOM rethinks milk for a cleaner, fresher and more sustainable future.
Taste that wins. Impact that lasts.
Does MYOM Reduce Food Waste?
MYOM is designed to help reduce food waste at every stage from production to everyday use. As a concentrated oat blend that you make fresh with water, you only prepare what you need, when you need it, avoiding the waste that comes from opened milk cartons spoiling before they’re finished.
Each pouch can be mixed instantly with water to make 1 litre (130g) or 500 ml (65g) of fresh oat milk. Because it’s made fresh on demand, you always enjoy the perfect amount with minimal waste. Unopened pouches are shelf-stable for many months, requiring no refrigeration until made. This not only cuts energy use but also eliminates the waste caused by expired chilled products.
Made in Scotland at our BRC-AA rated facility, MYOM follows strict control to avoid overproduction and factory waste. Every pouch empties completely with no leftover milk or residue and can be rinsed and recycled. According to WRAP, UK households pour away over 300,000 tonnes of milk each year due to spoilage. By switching to MYOM’s make-on-demand format, you can reduce household milk waste, while enjoying fresher, better-tasting oat milk every time.
Choose fresh. Choose flexible. Choose Taste Not Waste.
Is MYOM Part of a Circular or Refill System?
MYOM is built around the principles of a refill system. Its make-at-home format, recyclable packaging and reusable bottles are designed to reduce waste and keep materials in use for longer. Each lightweight pouch makes one litre of fresh oat milk when mixed with water in a reusable bottle, meaning you refill, not replace. Instead of throwing away cartons, you simply top up your bottle again and again, keeping packaging volumes to a minimum.
Every MYOM pouch is made from recyclable PP5 mono-material, which can be collected through most UK kerbside recycling schemes. By using a single polymer type instead of complex multi-layer composites, MYOM enables true recycling and supports the UK’s growing circular economy. Unopened pouches are shelf-stable for months, removing the need for chilled transport and refrigerated storage, cutting both emissions and energy use.
With 88% of UK councils now collecting PP5 plastics, MYOM fits neatly into existing recycling systems. Each reusable bottle can be refilled hundreds of times, replacing dozens of single-use cartons and saving unnecessary waste.
Shake. Refill. Recycle. Repeat.
Is MYOM Packaging Recyclable?
Yes, MYOM packaging is fully recyclable. Each pouch is made from a single, lightweight PP5 mono-material that can be recycled through most UK kerbside plastic collection schemes and carries a 98% recyclability score. Unlike cartons made from mixed layers of paper, plastic and aluminium, MYOM’s mono-material pouches are designed for easy recycling and minimal environmental impact. Each pouch weighs just 6g compared with an average 35g carton, meaning significantly less material is used.
To recycle, simply empty and rinse your pouch, then replace the cap before recycling. This helps prevent small plastics from being lost during sorting. Most UK councils now accept PP5 flxible packaging through kerbside collections; you can check your local scheme at Recycle Now, managed by WRAP. If your area doesn’t collect PP5, take used pouches to participating supermarkets or community plastic drop-off points.
MYOM pouches use 87% less packaging weight than standard oat milk cartons, are non-toxic, aluminium-free and BPA-free, and support a circular recycling system where clean PP5 can be reused for new packaging and products. With 88% of UK councils already collecting PP5, every time you rinse, cap and recycle a MYOM pouch, you help keep valuable materials in use and reduce the overall carbon footprint of your milk.
What Is MYOM Packaging Made From?
MYOM packaging is made from PP5 mono-material, a fully recyclable flexible material designed to reduce environmental impact. The pouches combine strength and flexibility with excellent barrier protection while avoiding aluminium and multi-layer composites that make cartons hard to recycle. Each pouch weighs just 6 g versus 35 g for a carton, an 87% reduction in packaging weight yet still protects product quality and freshness for months without refrigeration.
Made from a single polymer type (polypropylene), PP5 is easy to sort and recycle through most UK kerbside collections. It contains no aluminium, is food-safe, BPA-free, and meets all UK and EU food contact standards. Durable yet lightweight, it protects the product while cutting material use and transport emissions.
To recycle, rinse the pouch, replace the cap, and recycle with household plastics where PP5 is accepted, or drop off at participating supermarkets. With most UK councils now collecting PP5, MYOM pouches support a circular recycling system and a much smaller environmental footprint than traditional cartons.
Can MYOM Pouches Go in Household Recycling?
Yes, MYOM pouches can be recycled through most UK household plastic collections. They’re made from PP5 (polypropylene) — the same material used for yoghurt pots, margarine tubs and many takeaway containers. However, as recycling systems vary between councils, it’s best to check your local recycling guidance to confirm PP5 is accepted in your area.
According to the UK Household Plastic Packaging Collection Survey by RECOUP, around 88% of UK councils now offer kerbside collection for PP5 plastics such as pots, tubs and trays. The average national collection rate is around 38%, and capacity for collecting and sorting PP plastics continues to grow under government Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Simpler Recycling initiatives.
To recycle your MYOM pouch, empty and rinse it, replace the cap, and recycle it with household plastics if your council collects PP5. If not, take rinsed pouches to a supermarket or community recycling point that accepts flexible or rigid plastics. You can quickly check local options at Recycle Now, the UK’s official recycling directory. Just enter your postcode to see what’s accepted in your area.
What Is MYOM Doing to Reduce Plastic Waste?
Reducing plastic waste and improving recyclability are at the heart of MYOM’s design. Every element of its packaging has been engineered to use fewer resources, generate less waste and support genuine recycling through UK systems. Each pouch weighs just 6g, compared with around 35g for a standard carton, using 87% less material for the same one-litre yield. Less material means less plastic produced, transported and disposed of.
MYOM pouches are made from a fully recyclable PP5 mono-material (polypropylene) that can be collected and reprocessed through most UK kerbside schemes. Unlike cartons made from bonded layers of paperboard, polyethylene and aluminium, MYOM’s single-material format avoids the composite structure that makes traditional cartons difficult to separate and recycle. In practice, most cartons are incinerated for energy recovery.
PP5 aligns with the UK’s recycling infrastructure, supported by RECOUP, WRAP and Defra’s Simpler Recycling reforms. Around 88% of UK councils now collect PP5 plastics such as pots, tubs and trays, and it’s a key focus for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) investment. To recycle, simply rinse and cap each pouch before placing it in household plastics recycling or take it to a supermarket collection point if your council doesn’t yet collect PP5. You can quickly check local options at Recycle Now, the UK’s official recycling directory. Just enter your postcode to see what’s accepted in your area.
Taste that wins. Impact that lasts.
How Should I Dispose of MYOM Pouches Responsibly?
Disposing of your MYOM pouches responsibly is simple and makes a real difference in reducing plastic waste. Each pouch is made from PP5 mono-material, which is widely recyclable across the UK. With a few easy steps, you can ensure the material is properly recovered and reused rather than sent to landfill or incineration.
After use, empty and rinse your pouch to remove any residue. A quick rinse with cold water is enough. Then replace the cap before recycling. Keeping the cap attached prevents small plastics from being lost during sorting and helps both parts get recycled together. Most UK councils now collect PP5 (polypropylene) plastics through household schemes, so you can place your rinsed, capped pouch in your recycling bin. If PP5 isn’t collected in your area, take pouches to participating supermarkets or community recycling points. You can check your local options easily at Recycle Now, the UK’s official recycling directory.
Once rinsed, you can flatten pouches to save space in your bin. PP5 is one of the most valuable plastics to recycle. According to RECOUP, 88% of UK councils already collect PP5 plastics, with recycling capacity growing under new Simpler Recycling and EPR reforms. By rinsing, capping and recycling, you help keep materials in use, cutting emissions and reducing demand for virgin plastic.
You can quickly check local options at Recycle Now, the UK’s official recycling directory. Just enter your postcode to see what’s accepted in your area.
Small actions at home make a big impact when everyone takes part.
Can MYOM Packaging Be Recycled Everywhere?
Cartons have an effective UK recycling rate of less than 30% and are rarely accepted for kerbside recycling. Most are incinerated or landfilled due to their mixed materials (paper, plastic, aluminium). In contrast, polypropylene pouches (PP5) are widely recycled in UK kerbside collections.
Why cartons are hard to recycle
- Multi-layer construction: A standard 1L Tetra Pak has ~75% paperboard, ~20% polyethylene (plastic) and ~5% aluminium.
- This “sandwich” of materials makes it difficult to separate and recycle efficiently.
- In the UK, only a small number of specialist facilities can process them.
- Although many councils collect cartons, the effective recycling rate is under 30% because much of the material is downcycled, sent abroad, or incinerated.
What “widely recycled” means for MYOM pouches (PP5)
- MYOM pouches are polypropylene (plastic type 5), a single, mono-material that’s already used in everyday packaging like yoghurt pots and butter tubs.
- “Widely recycled” is a UK On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) definition: it means 75% or more of local authorities accept the material in their household kerbside recycling collections.
- In practice, most households across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can put PP5 into their standard household recycling bin (once rinsed, cap attached).
What if a council doesn’t accept PP5 at kerbside?
- Check local authority guidance: some smaller councils may not yet collect PP plastics.
- Supermarket collection points: most large supermarkets now offer front-of-store recycling bins for flexible plastics and PP pots, tubs and trays.
- Terracycle and specialist schemes: consumers can use drop-off points or postal schemes where PP5 is not kerbside accepted.
Summary for recycling MYOM pouches
- Most UK households: rinse, cap on, and put MYOM pouches in your household recycling bin.
- If kerbside not available: drop them at supermarket recycling points or specialist schemes.
- Either way, MYOM’s mono-material design means it is far more recyclable than cartons, which are rarely recycled into new cartons.
How Much Plastic Does MYOM Use Compared to Cartons?
A standard 1L carton weighs ~35g (with ~9.6g plastic + 2g aluminium).
A MYOM pouch weighs just 6g, all recyclable PP.
That’s 80% less plastic per litre, and no aluminium.

INNOVATION & ETHICS
Why is MYOM using AI?
Because it helps us stay focused on what matters most: making the best oat milk possible without compromise on taste, nutrition, or sustainability. AI helps us share that story more efficiently, meaning every penny we save in production goes back into product innovation. 🌍
Isn’t AI unnatural for a food brand?
We get why it might seem that way, but progress and nature aren’t opposites. Just as we used science to make MYOM shelf-stable without additives, we use small-scale AI to make storytelling fun, lighter and less wasteful. For us, it’s all part of the same mission to do better with less.
Do you use AI all the time?
No, only when it makes sense. We use AI for testing ideas, not as a constant or automated process. Every decision is reviewed by our teams, always with care, intention, and transparency.
What are MYOM’s ethical boundaries with AI?
We believe technology should never come at the cost of people or the world we live in. That means no hidden data scraping, no generative models that use unlicensed creative work, and no overclaiming about impact. If a tool doesn’t meet our ethical and sustainability standards, we simply don’t use it.
What’s next for AI at MYOM?
We’ll continue to use AI mindfully, for campaign testing, sustainability analytics, and creative exploration. We believe innovation should lighten our footprint, not add to it. 👉 Keep an eye on our next story: 'Can AI Ever Be Sustainable? Why MYOM Is Choosing a Thoughtful Path Forward.'
