MYOM Oat Drink and Rapeseed Oil. And Why We Chose It...

Creating a Unique Taste Profile

Rapeseed oil brings a distinct flavour to MYOM Original Oat drink that sets it apart from other plant-based alternatives. For our community, taste remains the top reason for choosing and recommending MYOM. Our GMO-free, Kosher rapeseed oil adds a mild, naturally sweet complexity that enhances the oat flavour without overpowering it.

Elevating Texture and Creaminess

Texture is essential to the MYOM experience. Rapeseed oil imparts a rich, velvety smoothness that elevates everything from lattes to desserts. It froths beautifully and lends indulgence to any creation, making it a go-to for baristas and home chefs alike.

A Conscious, Evidence-Based Choice

When selecting an oil for MYOM, health and sustainability were key. Rapeseed oil's favourable fatty acid profile—rich in unsaturated fats and low in saturated fats—was a major factor. It includes omega-3 fatty acids, known for supporting cardiovascular and cognitive health.

A June 2025 study reported in *VegNews* has reaffirmed the positive health profile of rapeseed oil, noting it among the seed oils least associated with negative health outcomes. The study challenged broad claims that “seed oils” are harmful, showing that not all seed oils are equal. Rapeseed oil, in particular, was highlighted for its low omega-6 to omega-3 ratio, making it a standout choice for those concerned with inflammation and heart health.

What does GM-free mean?

Rapeseed oil is a crop that can often be genetically modified (GM), in fact up to 90% can be – although there are no GM rapeseed crops grown in Britain. Rest assured we carried out extensive quality checks when sourcing our oil and it is certified GM-free, a key quality credential.

Nutritional Benefits of Rapeseed Oil

In general, rapeseed oil boasts an impressive array of nutritional components that can positively impact health. Here are some main benefits:

1. High in Unsaturated Fatty Acids: Unsaturated fats, such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, are known for their heart-healthy properties. Rapeseed oil is abundant in these unsaturated fats, which some studies have found that it is this fatty acid profile which may contribute its potential impact on reducing LDL cholesterol levels.

2. Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids play a crucial role in various bodily functions, including brain health and regulating inflammation. MYOM Original Oat drink contains a favourable ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids compared to other seed oils such as sunflower seeds. MYOM's rapeseed oil offers a balanced omega-6 to omega-3 ratio (~2:1), which compares very favourably with sunflower oil’s 246:1 ratio.

3. Vitamin E and Antioxidants: Rapeseed oil contains vitamin E, along with other flavonoids and carotenoids. These have antioxidant potential, which may help to protect against the damage caused by free radicals.

Our rapeseed oil contains 35µg of Vitamin E per 100g, supporting skin and immune health while combating oxidative stress.

Comparison with Other Oils

When it came to choosing the right oil for MYOM Original Oat drink, it was essential to not only have the right taste, texture, and creaminess, but also to consider the health properties of all ingredients.

We carefully chose rapeseed oil due to its more beneficial polyunsaturated fatty acid profile when compared to other seed oils. Rapeseed oil is higher in omega 3 fatty acids and lower in omega 6. You can see how it compares to sunflower oil and soya bean oil below:

*Polyunsaturated fats, also called polyunsaturated fatty acids or PUFAs, are considered good fats.

Rapeseed oil has a higher content of omega 3 and significantly lower content of omega 6. Therefore, rapeseed oil shines in comparison to vegetable oils, such as soybean or sunflower oil due to its much lower omega 6 : 3 ratio.
